Welcome
Recently, I have been encouraged to "speak up" and "speak out".  I figured what better way to do this than by launching a blog to go with my new website layout?  For those of you who don't know me, I'm Rachael... the younger of the two sisters that co-own Cymbidium.  After a year of doing our accounting (and hating my life) I was pushed by a slightly older and wiser sister to pursue my dreams of being a photographer.  A lot of research, a few trips to the camera store, and an extended stay abroad later... CYMBIDIUM photography was born.  It's been a few years now but the excitement of showing the world how I see things returns every time I pick up the camera and LOOK THROUGH MY LENS.

"What does true evil look like?"  Immediately, without thought, my mind catapulted to the moment I took this picture.  As a photographer, often I am forced to shoot in the moment and emotionally process it later, but even I found myself dropping my camera- and my jaw at this particular second.  I watched a boy under the age of 4, shivering from the cold (and from his high fever), do a job no grown man should be forced to do.  We did the best we could do that day to help- a few snacks, a shirt off one of our backs, a promise to meet up later with his master, but eventually we did have to leave.  The sheer absence of hope in this child's eyes was pure evil in a powerful form.

At the risk of sounding a little cliche- I am constantly amazed how God works in what we see as hopeless situations.  I am consistently being reminded that my God is far bigger and greater than I give Him credit for, and has better plans than I could ever come up with.  Not long after the above picture was taken, George Achibra negotiated Emmanuel's (yes, his name literally means "God is with us") release.  The picture below is one I took during his first semester of school (just 5 months later), while he was waiting for the bus in his new school uniform.  I can't wait to watch this little one grow up- He has a lot to teach me!

Love your work Rachael. What ever happened with George? Did he have surgery and is he doing better? My prayers are with him and his organization.

Baby.jpgWhile all are anxiously awaiting little Miss Emerson Rose's arrival, I thought I'd share a few memories of the weekend event that was held in her honor!!!

First, there was a custom CYMBIDIUM invitation, enticing everyone to attend:

With the addressed envelopes ready to be mailed (handwritten by the fabulously talented Robyn... because I apparently missed out on the beautiful handwriting gene in our family).

Next, was my photo shoot with Mommy & Daddy-To-Be, Aimee and Bryan.

Followed by the Couple's shower: complete with fresh cut orchids from CYMBIDIUM, and food by the one and only... Chef Blythe Beck (yes... those are hot pink donut holes)!!!

Finally, each guest left with a gift bag and golden button (pictured below) to let the world know how they feel about Baby Emerson!

Love Emerson as much as we do?!!  Want to see more pictures?  CLICK HERE to view a slideshow of the weekend (includes my pictures from both the photo shoot and the couple's shower).

a.jpg"The customer is always right" is Brent's favorite saying!  Since technically he was Tiffany's customer, things between the two started slowly (although they had definitely caught each other's eye!).  Things picked up when she asked them on their first date and the two have been inseparable ever since.  Check out a few of my favorite picts from their big day!

Austin, Texas.  Need I say more?!  Shooting this wedding was an absolute blast!  Here are a few of my favorite shots of the super cute couple!

Then, there is my favorite part of every wedding (yes, it's girly and cliche, but I will say that I did love it even before the movie 27 Dresses made it popular)... THE GROOM'S FACE, when he sees her for the first time!!!
